Gryn
Gryn is located in the southern highlands
of Jordan, south of Ayl. On the hill-top stands a fortification,
while the artesian wells empty their water into ancient cisterns
and aqueducts below the fort. Water from Gryn is still used to
supply the surrounding district.
 |
From a distance you can see the Gryn fortification
on the hilltop. |
 |
The fort is in a state of poor repair. |
 |
It is possible to stand on the roof of two rooms
to view the rest of the fort and the surrounding countryside |
 |
The old Incense Road winding it's way across
the country. This later became a Roman road, and parts of it
still have the old Roman cobblestones. |
 |
From the top of the fort it is possible to see
fortifications in the surrounding area, such as Al Maregha, Ras
al Naqb and others. |
 |
One of the more interesting things about the
Gryn fort and caravan stop is an old lime pit where limestone
was heated to make lime. |
